  11.     Many thanks indeed to all who responded to my plea for help 
  12. with the fontname maps.  Especially to "K. Berry" <kb@cs.umb.edu>
  13. who sent me a copy, and others who told me I didn't need it. 
  14.     I thought that if you are going to have a heirarchy, you should have
  15. a heirarchy, and having MakeTeXPK dump all the PK's into .../tmp/pk seemed
  16. broken to me.  Especially as I didn't have one.  With these map files that
  17. is working well.
  18.     My other problem about making fonts unnecessarily was sillyness on
  19. my part.  An environment variable left over from an ancient incarnation on
  20. prehistoric hardware.
  21.     So thanks again to everyone for the help, and now another question
  22. if I may:
  23.     Is the `density' switch, or the -S switch or the `S' command meant
  24. to change the blackness of the display in xdvi?  Some of my users think so
  25. and have even demonstrated a version where it does.  On my setup, it causes
  26. a redisplay of the screen but no noticable change in appearance.
